Spring Break Travelogue – Part 2

Greetings from Wytheville, VA. I just had dinner at the Sagebrush Steakhouse and Saloon. I had the Sagebrush Salad.

But my big news is that I’m in love! I never thought it could happen at this point in my life.  No, I didn’t meet some cowboy at the Sagebrush and then bring him back to the Best Western. My new love is Tom! Remember Jeff’s friend Tom-Tom? Tom and I are now on a first name basis. It took a while for me to trust him. At first, I cast him aside, but he hung in there and got me through some tough times – like the Asheville Bypass. Holy Cow! I would’ve never made it without him.

Tom is a little insecure. He becomes a bit insistent when I veer off course to stop at a McDonald’s to go to the bathroom. “Turn around at your next opportunity” is what he says. Pretty cute, huh? At first, he clung to my windshield but I finally put him in my lap where he seemed pretty happy.  Tom has made me see that I can still navigate the world as long as he's with me.  We make a great team.

I can’t wait until tomorrow when Tom and I head up I-81 to Bethesda to meet my family. Until then, I wonder if he likes spring colors in extra-large cotton underwear.

I hope he doesn’t snore.

So, there! You've got Day 1 under your belt, and you and Tom are officially a couple. Glad to hear your trip is going well. Tomorrow you see family!

I can now relax about your trip because I know you and Tom are a team! Nancy

I remember getting acquainted with my Tom-Tom. We also had a few false starts and some talking that was not communicating. Nowadays we are a couple. I enjoyed your telling of the story.

Tom-Tom sounds much more romantic than Garmin. Too bad we didn't have him back in our DOE travel days, huh? Sounds like the kind of adventure that will give us lots of good blogging!!Have fun!

And they said Aussie's have no sense of direction. He not only got you to where you were going but he even found his way into your lap! He's a keeper.

May your relationship thrive and prosper and be blessed with many shades of undies.

I prefer John Cleese in my car.

Joan, I thought about you in Gainesville, the one place I got LOST in spite of Tom. Remember how we never could find our way around that what was supposed to be small town?

A bit soon, all this, surely? Do you usually take new friends to bed on the first date?

Friko, it depends on how helpful they are. I wonder if Tom can change a tire.

I suspected this might happen. I tell mine at least three times a trip in a total gush "I LOVE YOU". They really take the stress out of driving.
Don't give up on the map however. It is a good back up and the info in Tom was entered by a human and sometimes is not up to date.

I was concerned about you last night as we had a roaring thunderstorm and the wind whipped all the blossoms apart. Apparently, a line of squalls came over the mountains and hit Atlanta first.

So happy to hear you have found true love, and that Tom was there riding along with you, you lucky girl. Have fun today. It was 85 yesterday and feels like 60 today. Dianne

Now, isn't it just amazing how new underwear can give you such a boost and a new outlook on life? Your new found confidence with the help of those spring panties attracted love into your life. I hope your family approves and don't prudishly insist that you and Tom have separate sleeping arrangements.

so funny. our first "Tom-Tom" actually set me free. We were living in a state I knew nothing about and we got TT to help me gain the ability and courage to have destinations. This being said by a person who drove in Manhattan like a taxi driver. While there may be no relevance to that particular point, I was happy. My first TT was not as polite as yours - TT was a "she". and in an unusually exasperated voice would say "recalculating" even if her instructions were not up to my standards. Still she was better than fear. My new TT is a sweetie. And you are right, my lap in our fav place - no outside "glare" on our intimate relationship. We have the best conversations. She's a great listener when she's not telling me to turn back at the next opportunIty. I don't leave home without her. She's making me rethink my gender choices.

So far dear hubby has resisted welcoming Tom Tom into our driving adventures. We continue to miss turns or make wrong turns. We call that "taking the scenic route." Often the scenic route is a result of my inability to consistently determine and communicate left and right correctly. And Arkansas Patti, i wonder what TT would say about my map reading. Would he take the same MALE stance as hubby and grumble because I have to turn the map the way we are actually traveling instead of keeping the map with north at the top? It is the only chance I have of figuring out left or right!
